Exclamation External address loads only on server

I've been trying to set up a new web server again. with a new fresh opensuse 10.3. I've come across a problem I can't figure out. the internal lan ip works on all computers. the external ip only works on the server and it times out on my other computers. i have the suse firewall off. and my router ports are open for 80 for the suse server. but for some reason the external ip only works on the server... i cant seem to find anything similar to this problem anywhere.. any ideas?

Does this mean that you have multiple web servers ? Does it also mean that you've configured a nic on those with an internal ip (ex 192.168.x.x) and the nic functions properly ?

Does this mean that you've set up a nic on the machine as well and on it resides an external ip (ex 204.345.43.32) and the nic functions properly ? Can you ping that external nic only from inside or outside as well ?

It seems to me like you want to use port forwarding from your router to the inside machine. In that case, you don't need an external ip on the web server; all you need is an internal ip (ex 204.345.43.32) and your firewall will do the work.

Hope this helps,

apperently i just found out that the external address to the server works from the outside. but for some reason it wont work on any of my other machines on the network except the server. i only have one webserver. it has its internal ip and it works well. and i can access it from within the network no problem using the internal ip 192.168.. on port 21 and 80. my whole network was an external ip. 99.24... i have my router as my firewall forwarding through to the server on port 80 and 21. the server as far as i know does not have an external ip it only has the internal ip of 192.168.. the other day i did ping from outside on port 80 and it worked. i can ping it from in my netowork if i ping the internal ip. for some reason it wont ping the external ip from inside the network the external ip only seems to work on the server.

I guess it doesnt really matter to much. it does work well and normal. i just thought it was odd that it wouldnt load on any other networked computer unless i used the servers internal network ip
