Hi. I am wondering if there is a way to get a professional yourname.com domain without buying one. I am pretty sure there is a way. My server isn't public yet, it is on a home network so also how do i put it on the internet?
I think the only way to get yourname.com domain for free is to have someone to buy it for you
You can use No-IP or DynDNS to get a free domain like myserver.noip.com or something (check them for options available). Then you need to set up an update client to notify the service of your IP changes (in case it's dynamic). Then read your server's documentation on how to configure it to listen and accept connections on specific address port 80.
Hmm… it's too complicated to be explained in a comment.
You need to configure your network and server to accept incoming connections on port 80. You need a domain name, so go and get one from some free service as i suggested in my first comment. Once you have it up and running, open and read through Apache config and manual, everything there is pretty well documented. Basically you need to tell your Apache what domain name he has, and if this name resolves it will accept connections and show your pages to the world. But there's lots more to do. If you have more detailed questions ask here and i will help, but read the manuals first and don't expect me to write configs for you.
Regards.
Man…did you read what i say in my previous comments? No-IP or DynDNS will give you third-level domain for free. There's no other way to get free domain name, only to get it from one of said providers, just go and register for the service. Then, if you need more help, i'll be glad to help you.
