Console "desktop environment" for my vs2-free

Hello,

I want to install a terminal desktop environment on my micro server. I have been looking for a suitable distro lately, but I have not found anything. In some forums I was advised to use the minimal OS from euserv and install my programs myself. Currently I have already found the following:

- Screen as terminal multiplexer
- mc as file manager
- mutt as e-mail program

Currently I am still missing
- a browser with javascript support
- an office alternative
- a chat client
- a PDF viewer

can you tell me some good programs?

By a "terminal desktop environment," do you mean something like a window manager? If that's the case, my hands-down favorite is Fluxbox.

As an aside, you might find this thread from Stack Exchange to be helpful.

Regarding some of your other questions, my favorite PDF viewer is Okular, but, if you want light-weight, there's xpdf.

Firefox is my go-to browser, but my favorite command line browser is w3m.

I think it would be useful to give us the specs of your micro-server eg RAM/cpu/disk.
That will give us a better idea of its capabilities .
