Need More Data.

Generally, well behaved software will use the local MTA. You do not mention the mail software on either mail client or mail server other than the client piece mutt. We need to know the server piece to hazard an answer.

The classic software is sendmail, and the answer for that would be easy enough. The answer for procmail, exim, qmail, or other mail systems would differ.

In general, you want your mail server to accept forwarding requests from your client server. You also need your mail client server to use the mail server as a SMARTHOST. What mail path requirements you have will, to some extent, determined the level of complexity.

Can you provide more detail about your mail server software on both machines?

I just installed mutt and sendmail package. Nothing did beyond that...

RTFM, but get the cliff notes versions also.

MUTT is used form the command line to communicate with your local MTA. It is user and script friendly, but does not (by default) talk to remote mail servers. While you can configure MUTT to work this way, the better answer is to get your LOCAL MTA to talk to the REMOTE MTA so that ALL mail clients work. For this you want to read up on sendmail to discover how to set the server to RELAY mail for your client server, and how to set the mail server as SMARTHOST in the configuration on the client server so it will use it to relay mail.

These are pretty standard things to do. Pages like http://www.tldp.org/LDP/nag2/x15291.html and https://www.howtoforge.com/configuri...e-from-address should help.

Note that using the MC configuration and MC tools is recommended. Even with those tools, advanced sendmail configuration is a pretty deep subject! (Lots of fun, if you have time to dig into it. Powerful stuff!) If the articles linked do not make sense, consider searching ("google is your friend") for additional information.
