Lightbulb Configuring the DNS Server on Linux VM host

Hello Friends,

This is my first post on this portal, and also I am new to linux,

I have two vm (node1/2), on my laptop, I am planning to configure sendmail, however for sending mail from one vm to another vm, I think I have to confgiure DNS server first,

I have checked few documents and found they are creating independent DNS Server, but I am trying to configure A DNS without changing my host name because I have allready configure VCS as a two node cluster on it,

hope my question is correct.

Regards,
Rahul Rai

there have been so so many questions about DNS servers being required for SMTP servers to run. This is not true, you do not *NEED* to create an entire DNS server to use sendmail at all. You just need to be able to resolve the names you need to resolve, be it through existing public DNS servers, local hosts files or whatever. TO start with, I would definitely say you should NOT create one, esp if you do not understand why it's optional.

You would also do very well to not mix up the physical or virtual nature of a server with what it does. Sendmail couldn't care less if it's running on a VM or not.
