Hi every one, i have a domain name which i want to use on my computer to host my site and other websites with ftps. but i just don't know how to come about it now... please someone should help me. it seems confusing.
Do you have a static or dynamic IP address?
Is this a typical home broadband connection i.e cable or DSL?
Do you have a router or any other hardware besides a modem between the internet and the PC?
Does your ISP allow webservers?
There are services like noip.com and dyndns.com that specialize in providing DNS for dynamic IP sites. A client runs on your PC that updates their nameserver when your IP changes. These sites are usually free when using their domains but charge a fee for yours. I really haven't spent much time investigating all of the sites. I use noip.com.
Since your not using a router just make sure your firewall allows incomming traffic for webserver, ftp and mailserver traffic.
More information is required if you need help configuring the servers and any additional applications.
What linux distribution / version you are running?
Did you select a webserver or ftp server when you installed the OS? apache is the webserver of choice but there are several ftp servers. What are you going to do with this webserver? Do you need a database?
I wasn't paying attention. I guess your running knoppix.
