central server log / databased . . syslog-ng maybe?

I can't beleive I coulnd't find more than 1 thread (which was a dead end) which questions my direction.

We have 8 or so servers which we wish to centralize the logs writing them to a postgres database. My quick searches leads to syslog-ng. We already have a postgres db setup and running now I wish to just having the logs from each server write into that table. All the "how-to's" have been good at the local setup, but none I found mentioning howto write the records to an off server database.

The one post mentioned splunk, but that site seems down, so if anyone has done this via syslog-ng, or has another way, please shout it out!

Thanks,
Lance

The splunk.com site is up. You may want to give it another try. Splunk can easily index all th syslog-ng data (as well as other IT data) and you won't need an internal database like Postgres. Splunk is free a download.

ah, the site is now up and I will check it out. Thanks, reading through some sites regarding the syslog-ng, I don't see much detail on doing the actual syslog-ng data move, do you have experience in that, if so, feel free to post the conf file to help.

tnx
