Backup via split email attachments?

I'm about to start trying to write a script to backup /
with just something like tar, or dd, split into 24mb files and email to myself.

What could possibly go wrong?

I'm amazed I couldn't find anything in my searches on this specifically.

What I want is to go from a Gentoo rescue CD to a restored system as easily as possible.

I tried rsync over gmailfs but that just froze. I can't really see that working too well anyway.

Well, GMailFS is exactly what you are talking about (splitting files and storing them as attachments), so if you don't think that will work well I'm not sure where you are going with this.

How about uploading the backups to DropBox?

Thanks, I am using Dropbox now.

I will keep an eye out for backups via though. I'm sure there's got to be a script out there somewhere.
