You have shared a windows folder on a windows machine.
You want to mount it in linux, using cifs.mount from fstab.
You know fstab entry is correct from mount -a command
But does not mount on boot.

Have you looked at the syslog right after boot for errors?
(dmesg)

Remember that windows does not play well with others, which is why we usually make linux host the file servers.

Please try to supply answers to questions asked, and try to be specific in the information you post.

Do I understand that you can auto-mount on boot the windows share using samba-client in CentOS 4.7 but not with CentOS 5.4 ?

Advise stands - check syslog for errors right after boot.
Your symptoms are usual for fstab mounts being run before the network is up. If this is the case then the CentOS 4.7 setup somehow accounted for this. But there are other possibilities.

or man mount: _netdev option.
