SSH Connection Sequence

Hello All,

I have a ? about SSH and what happens when a user connects. No matter what SSH client I use, my fwl takes a few seconds to get back to me for the login screen.

I thought maybe it was because it was a slower machine, but I have another one which is a 486 and it has no problem.

So I thought about what actually happens when a client connects to an SSH server and was wondering if there was a reverse lookup happening there or something like that which may be causing the timeout? All allowable clients are in my DNS Server so I don't think that is an issue.

Has anybody else ran into this before?

Thanks,

green one

Any reverse mapping checks in your sshd_config? manually resolving addresses from the box OK?

Have you used verbose login with ssh?

Eg ssh -v (add another -v for even more information) -l <username> x.x.x.x (or hostname).
