SSH connection

I have sshd running on my linux machine and I'm able to connect locally both with user@localhost and user@machineip.

However, when I try to connect remotely the connection times out. I am using all default settings in config file, and have searched everywhere for a solution. Please help!

do you have a linux software firewall running?
does your logfiles show you even connected?
what distribution and version are you using?

That did it...

I'm running SuSE9.2 with SuSEfirewall2. by making ssh "accessible from untrusted networks" I can now connect from my windows comp or the internet if I choose.

thanks for giving me the hint I needed to get this working. I was getting really sick of moving back and forth between comps.
