Shorewall Question

i am using the Bering distro of LEAF and has shorewall on it. i would rather use cli iptables. i understand that shorewall is a front end to iptables but im not convinced thier "one in the same"
basically if i use iptables instead of shorewall and save everything, will this update shorewall files so at startup the filters are in place? or do i need to disable shorewall.

this distro is nice but support is lacking in the Forums catagory. before i even hook this up to the net, i want to learn iptables but dont want to screw around with iptables until i understand what shorewall is doing.

1 more thing. if i go the iptables route, can i shut down shorewall all togeher?

anyhelp would be much appreciated.

thanks

Well Shorewall is just a helpful interface to iptables with some added features. I tried learning iptables once, it wasn't worth it for me, very complicated and very easy to mess up. I use Shorewall with the default samples, and it works very good. Try it out.

If you make your own startup script with iptables, yes you can remove iptables.
