hi all
i have a LAN environment. users from LAN connect to internet via my linux box. on this box iptables firewall runs. what ports should i open to allow users to get all the services like all chat rooms and yahoo, msn messengers and browsing http/ftp etc
You don't need to open ports on the Linux machine. What you need to:
* masquerading
* allowing connections from your LAN to get out via the Linux box (OUTPUT chain should allow them)
* certain modules helping masquerading (loaded): ip_conntrack* (they have a service name at the end so you should be able to easily decide which ones you'd like to use)
