interesting 'test your security' sites

I know a lot of you know about these sites already, but I would like to draw your attention to the last one. Some are very basic, (GRC), but the last reference is a site that hits you with nmap. It is so fast that my log parser seems not to see it (although my firewall drops the packets ok)
Give it a try and tell me what you think...

hackerwatch.org may want to sort out their name and possibly change to crackerwatch.org or something similar if they want to be taken seriously by anyone other than people who've just recently seen 'Hackers' on tv

I've always used grc for this sort of thing

I like now that grc.com has expanded the range of ports it will do and allows you to do a small custom scan.

You should scan your own machine(s), but it is also a good idea to scan from outside of your network. Scanning from outside might find something you missed.

deepsix,
yes, as twilli227 says, scanning from your own box is useful, but it is from inside your firewall, so you do not see what is blocked by the firewall. Of course it is good practice to close down stuff you dont need anyway...

I think what twilli227 was referring to was using an external webpage that offers scanning functions. Such as:

http://www.grc.com ShieldsUP Link
http://crypto.yashy.com/nmap.php

you can also do several tests in here:

http://scan.sygatetech.com/

Sygate makes a great firewall for windows, too bad it's not available for linux...
