I am trying to setup users to access my ftp site. I have made a group called ftpclients using UserDrake. I added a couple of users to it including myself and gave them passwords.
I also have them all accessing the same directory
/usr/ftp
But, When I ftp the site and type in the username and password, I get an "incorrect login" message.
In addition, everytime I add a new user, linux creates a new group with the username, something I would rather have it not do.
The only username and password that work are one I made a couple of days ago.
Need more info like what FTP deamon you are running, the config file, server logs, etc.
You can specify the group that users are added to when they are created so they don't get created in their own groups. Be a real man and use "adduser" in the command prompt.
1) I did use adduser at the command prompt to initially set up the users.
2) You know, like many on this forum, I'm looking for help when I get stuck - so I don't need stupid comments like
"Be a real man and use "adduser" in the command prompt" - TruckStuff. I don't know if you were trying to be funny, but it didn't come off that way.
I figured out the problem. I didn't set a shell for the users I added. Which I realized when I compared all the users in my group with UserDrake.
