Face-book game "Farmville" wants access to my ports???

My friends all request that I join Farmville so they can build their points. I don't play games but tried to oblige them. My firewall went nuts and I received requests to "open" certain ports. Can some one tell me what is going on and is this a security risk or not. I am 4 years deep into Linux and I haven't used microcrap in as many years but I am still learning, as there is so many things to master with Linux. BTW...I will never give up my Linux! DRM sucks! Your input will be greatly appreciated!

well yes, farmville connects to farmville servers on it's choice of ports, so if yo want it to work, you'd open those ports on your iptables setup. Farmville is evil though. You should decline the offer.

I agree, don't let peer pressure override reason. They should not have requested this of you anyway as you don't even play games (although this hardly qualifies as a game).

Also, if on any page you see the word 'FREE', in all caps, just like that, click the red x in the top right corner. It's good advice.

If your friendship depends on you using Farmville, get new friends.
