Something that would be useful- on the search page, you know how there is a drop down box for "search entire posts" and "search thread titles only" there should be a "search tags" option. Just to keep it all together and simple.
I like the drop down "guess" when you start typing, to try and keep minor tag variation down.

For a little while, instead of dropping down the "Your tags:" with a text box, it took me to lqtags.php&do=tagpost, or something like that, to enter a tag. Now it's back to normal. Something wrong?
Using Firefox 1.5.
As well, the I mentioned another improvement earlier: Upon clicking "Tags," the text box should get focus, and upon pressing enter afterwards the form should be submitted.
The page initiates the javascript links after it has loaded which allows us to support browsers that do not use javascript. If you clicked on the link before the page had fully loaded then it is possible you arrived at the non javascript version of the tagging system.

I must have stopped the page as it was loading. Thanks.
How do I search for multiple tags? Just tagged a post with 'bash script source'. So it now shows three tags, great.
Wanted to find posts with bash and script, so I go to the LQ tags page.
Tried to search for 'bash script' and it returns no results as it concatenates. Tried 'bash AND script', same result. Tried 'bash+script', again nothing. Used single and double quotes, ampersands, commas etc, no difference.
So please, how do I find posts about bash AND scripting
list of all tags (alphanumerical order); the 15 most popular ones don't mean much to me (personal opinion).
multi tag search (see above); I would love to see a full featured logical search; something like: ((bash or ksh) and (script)) and not mail; if that's to much asked (I can see that it involves a lot of work), maybe a search within a search so one can achieve a multi tag search.
A dropdown box or so populated with the currently known tags (with automatic completion while you type) might be usefull when one adds tags. This might prevent typos (openofice with one f for example).
//edit: looks like something like that is already implemented (or is that spell check?
Add tag search to the nomal search page; first of all this allows access from one place; second, one can search for tags and/or text and results can be combined.

tag abuse does seem like a viable problem, though with the people here I don't think that it will be that big, but thats my thoughts
One thing I have noticed: There isn't a way to tag a post while it is in the buffer before being activly posted. Maybe such a feature could be added so people can tag things at they go so they don't miss something, or so they don't add something in in the end that isn't really there?
Number Two: There are ALOT of old threads, so what will be done about this? If a problem was solved 2, 3, 4 years ago that still applies, then it has pretty much been lost as far as searching is concerned, and then when something comes up again, and they don't find an answer, then what? Are we all going to go on mass "answer hunts" to tag every little solved problem, or do we just call that the
"LOST THREADS OF YESTER-YEAR!"
and treat it kind of like a radioactive wasteland and avoid it, and hope the problem never arises again?
P.S. I know some people don't like caps, but I thought it would make it funny, and the added emphasis makes the idea even more so.

I don't think that a concerted effort to tag old threads will be done, as I can think of many ways that energy could be better spent. You can tag a thread while your posting it, but due to the multiple different ways to enter a post, you have to tag it after. Since we're using AJAX there is no page reload or delay involved, so hopefully that is acceptable.
It was a concern I could see, but I guess the members will be the ones up to doing such a thing.
As for the tagging bit, I don't know anything about AJAX and related topics, but if you don't see a need in it, then thats fine. I'll keep kwrite open to write them in and and cut + paste after I'm done.
My guess, Dralnu, is that tags will not become a "search killer" when someone finds that incredible post from two years ago that really saves their bacon, they'll tag it. Tech stuff goes out of date really soon anyway, so digging up super old posts doesn't help many people.
Caps are fine- as long as they are used sparingly and for emphasis.
