xinit: Connetcion refused

Ladies and Gentleman,

I am currently using Mandrake 8.0, and trying to make Debian 2.2 to work under x environement.

The install process went rather well, but then I had to configure X.

Here is waht happenned:

Mouse is ok, I think, it is on theyr list as PS2

Keyboard is ok too.

Board is a nvidia Riva TNT 2, so it should be ok, and memory on the board is 1024x32 kb

BUT

When I start x, startx, it just:

errors:

first time:

_X11 Transocket UNIX CONNECT: Can't connect: errno=111

second and following times:

xinit: Connection refused ( errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process ( errno 3): Server error

And I have tried to:

Change config manually, read all docs on this xf86config and related stuff, and ran xf86config about 4 million times.

I am really very desapointed, I thought Debian was the best indeed.

One last thing, my video board runs on a AGP 2x port.

Thanks for any help
