wrong character display

Hi!

1st, sorry for my bad english.

I've just installed a new 2.6.18 kernel. During the system boot (when daemons start) the encoding of the text, that's on the screen is wrong. My central european characters displays wrong. But when I'm 'in' the system, characters are displays corectly. And during system shutdown, the message of the stop of the daemons are correct again.

I'm using FC6, and of course the kernel that comes with the distro displays the characters correctly.

There is an option for the kernel about the default encoding of the characters. I selected utf-8 there, but that makes the wrong encoding. If I chosed iso8897-1, the systam won't started.

Is this kernel option is the right place for my porblem? Or is there any other place, conf. file I have to change to correct this error?

Firstly, your English is just fine.

Is your locale correct?

Where can I check it?

I didn't do anything else, just compiled a new kernel, and booted it.
