Wierd DSL connection problem

This one doesn't make sense...

I'm running RH 8.0 with the latest stable kernel (courtesy of RH update). If I boot my computer directly to Red Hat and connect to the internet via DSL, it says 'connected' in Network Monitor however no webpages come up. I can't connect to my Email server or anything. But... If I reboot to WinXP, connect to the internet, then REBOOT back to RH8.0, then connect...everything works fine. How can that be? Rebooting from WinXP should wipe everything. I do have the first and second DNS Name Server entered into the redhat connection. Everything works when I come back from WinXP, I can't figure this out..

Thanx for every1's help
