Neither do we, since none of us know what you're talking about yet. Mint is one of the most stable distros, and you don't say what you're doing to disable software repositories...they don't just disable themselves. And you don't say what software you're trying to install, or how, on what kind of hardware, what you mean by "breaks down", etc.

There are two possibilities here; once you provide details, we can try to help.

As has already been said --- PEBCAK

The system only breaks down if the user does something they shouldn't.

I have had systems running for the past 20+ years and only reboot after a kernel update. Never a failure of any kind.

To find out why your system is having problems
1. do a complete new install so the OS is clean
2. Do a complete update
$ apt update
$ apt upgrade
3. Once it has been upgraded so everything is current then keep a complete and accurate record of ALL changes you make.
That includes software installs, configuration changes, and anything else that could conceivably have an affect on the system.
4. When it starts to act "weird" then you have a record of what was done when so it might be possible to trace the cause.

Might be a hardware problem.

Like hardrive failing or something similar. Like specs aint up to mint.

Edit. Just checked op's about me page to look for some specs. Crickets and empty .

Until OP defines what precisely he or she means by breaks, what error messages are displayed, and which programs are breaking, I see little point in speculation.

So I will speculate: Problematical PPAs,

Astonishing talk from someone who lived through the capacitor plague. No HDD or OM drive failures either? Did you always replace computers before the old ones' warranties expired?

Failures are different than routine updates and replacement. Have had a couple (<6 months old) HDDs fail in a raid, but never an OS HDD. Some PCs have been used for more than 10 years just idling and never powered off except when I moved. Others different loads and times up, but almost all powered on 24/7 for long periods.

Yes, I remember the bad capacitor scare but I never encountered it.

Never use store bought machines except for laptops. Always build my own and can be selective of quality that way.

Just how few PCs have you had in 20+ years? Each of the 4 (different) Soyo Dragons I bought needed caps replaced. The only ABit I bought was never a victim, still runs. Other boards I bought that needing replacing of caps came from Tyan, PC-Chips, eCS and Foxconn. I also had and have a bunch of Dells acquired free that needed caps replaced. All I consider(ed) failures. Brands I bought new or refurb in the past two decades never needing caps came from only Asus and Gigabyte. So many power supplies had bad caps I couldn't keep track of them all, extremely common before 80 Plus came along, and even a few since.

If I remember correctly this is not necessarily advisable on Linux Mint specifically.

I concur. A full update may cause greater confusion.

By the way everyone, please remember this is someone new to Linux. While we need better information, the acronyms are inadvisable with our forum and rather unhelpful to a person asking for help. Other unrelated discussions should be elsewhere.

First. Welcome to LQ.

With this update there seem to be a lot of changes you've made or tried.

It's difficult for us to help if we do not have a clear picture.

Perhaps you can relate what you've done, in sequence, describe where it works, and see if you can explain where things go wrong. Sorry but only being told portions of what the outcome is, is not enough information for me at least. You should also tell us what computer specs you're using, such as make and model.

Another approach is, since you've done clean installs, perhaps you could consider doing that again, but only install the OS. See if it works, and let us know what you wish to install or configure, or any customizations you wish to make. And we possibly can help you get your system the way you want and need it to be.
