what is importance of gst--ffmpeg


I installed gst-ffmpeg from tarball and it said a lot of encoders,decoders,muxer will be enabled.What media player can play my video files now.Totem still asks for plugins.I know about mplayer but I want to know utility of gst-ffmpeg.
Same way I installed gst-fluendo mpeg mux& demux from tarball.

ffmpeg is the encoder/decoder frontend for libavformat and libavcodec, catch-all libraries that can handle dozens of multimedia formats. I assume that gst here means gstreamer, so it's probably the plugin that allows gstreamer to call on ffmpeg to help decode otherwise unsupported formats. I assume that most players that use gstreamer as the backend can take advantage of it, though it might depend on how they were compiled or set up.

Totem says it is based on gstreamer 0.10.13 so what benefit I would have gotten on installing gst-ffmpeg

My computer is not connected to internet but I can download required files from cyber cafe & install them.
Totem always asks for varieties of demuxer plugin.Where can I get them?
