"Waiting for network configuration" Ubuntu Server 12.04 problem

Hello all,

This is my first post so please bear with me.
I have a Dell Latitude D820 running Ubuntu Server 12.04 - GUI installed.
When I turn the computer on, It boots and stops at the "Waiting for network configuration". Then displays the "Waiting 60 more seconds"
(NOTE: no ethernet cable is connected during start up either)

Once the system finally starts up, If i just sit and wait at the desktop, eventually within a few minutes the wireless symbol comes up and connects to the internet.

I am fairly familiar with the files and configuration, but wasn't able to get that to work either. I edited the /etc/network/interfaces file to:

"auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp"

But when I go and restart (/etc/init.d/networking restart) it does not go through the restart all the way. I just sits there. So then I have to go back and re edit the file to take the previous edit out.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Like I said before, Im fairly descent with working around in the terminal if that needs to be done

Thank you!
Mike

What do you mean with 'just sits there'? Are there any message returned?

Hi thanks for the response this

"mike@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
* Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces
* Reconfiguring network interfaces...."

^^ Thats what runs and pauses when the wlan0 is in the file and is then restarted.

Then when I go to take it out of the file and try to restart it again I get:

"mike@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
* Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces
* Reconfiguring network interfaces....
RTNETLINK answers: no such process"

ok little update.
Turns out im not so much of a patient person.
I added:

"auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp"

back into the interface file and ran the restart command. After what seemed like forever it finally finished and showed "Ok".
But...
I restarted my computer again and still it sat at that "Waiting for network configuration".

Another quick update,
Once the system boots to the desktop and I wait until the wireless connects to the internet. Attached is a screen shot of what I get:

Does this have anything to pertain to my problem?
