Virtualbox update


Does anybody know how to update virtualbox from 4.1.12 to 4.2.6

As far as I know, you download the newest version and install it. It may or may not work or break other stuff.

The best way tends to be using your distro's software management system.

If 4.2.6 is not available from your package manager, go to -

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

and download it for your distro.

If you installed Virtualbox using the Oracle repository for your distro you'll need to explicitly upgrade from major release to another by, for example:

apt-get install virtualbox-4.2

All I get is a shell script now what. I see from the list of download links that mint is'nt supported it just
says other distributions. amd64 - typing sudo apt-get install virtualbox 4.2 into the terminal says it can't find
the packages. any help would be appreciated, I also need something more detailed instructions which it actually it is.

Mint is Ubuntu.

I think you should use VirtualBox for Ubuntu which is compatible with your version of mint.
What version of Mint you are using?

virtualbox for Ubuntu 12.04 is the right one
