I'm running redhat 8.0. I've got the Nvidia drivers for my laptop which I thought I had installed correctly..however...my video seems slow...choppy even. When I minimize a window..EVERYTHING slows down. So I looked at my XFree86 log file and found this:

Now I specified my sync and refresh rates within the XFree86 config file but as you can see...NVIDIA is overriding it. So...I read the readme that came with NVIDIA and put sn "options" line to my module configuration file "options nvidia
NVreg_Mobile=1". I set it to 1 because that's for a DELL laptop screen.
But still no luck...please save me from going back to WINdows XP. Tell me what I'm doing wrong!!
I have the Inspiron 2650...they haven't got that on the web page. But....
I've reconfigfured my XF86Config file to ignore and not probe EDIDs therefore it didn't probe and my config file is using my settings. But I'm still getting errors although the only error that concerns me is at 1024x768.

According to the manual...it only states 'Refresh rate 60Hz'...no specification of whether vert or horiz. This is a laptop...so the max video is 1024 x 768 but that's the resolution that is default. I can't understand why i'm getting ANY video if something were to be set wrong
With refreshe rates close to the good ones, you it seems OK, but there may be some problems (like, I think, in your case). There was a program allowing you to change the values where in X, so you can test them. It should be included in your distro, but I completely forgotten its name...
