Post /var/lib/ directory on another hard disk or as a separate partition

Hello,
Is it possible to install the /var/lib/ directory on another hard disk or as a separate partition when installing GNU/Linux?

Thank you.

Theoretically - yes, but practically it depends on the installer which is distro-specific. Don't know of one which can do it, but then I was not paying attention. You can always move it after the installation. And you definitely can do it when installing linux from scratch.

Hello,
Thank you so much for your reply.
I want to use Docker and the its default storage location is /var/lib/docker.

Instead of moving the entire partition might I suggest putting a folder wherever you have plenty of space and either symlinking or bind mounting to /var/lib/docker instead.

If you use manual partitioning when installing Linux you can put whatever you like on separate partitions.

I just put home on a partition of it's own and root and swap.
