Unhappy Upgrading RPMs???

I'm running RH8.0, started with very-minimum workstation install. I managed to get Apache2 downloaded, compiled and auto-starting after 3 days of pounding on the keyboard. I download the latest stable versions of MySQL and PHP. After fighting PHP for a while I decided to install RedHat's MySQL and PHP. One of the dependencies is Apache and a lesser version than Apache2. The RPM installed the old Apache alongside the new Apache2. I think RPMs are bad but I'm kind of stuck with them because I don't know how to upgrade an application through comiling it.

How can I upgrade the old version of Apache with the new one?

Thanks!

Use the -U flag.. it stands for Upgrade when installing RPM's..

ex: rpm -Uvh name-of-file.rpm
