Unable to open an initial console

Hi all,

I just booted the linux system and now getting the following error:

Mounting root filesystem
kjournald starting. Commit inetrval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode
Freeing usused kernelmemory: 164k free
Warning: unable to open an initial console

I tried to boot the system in single user mode but then it is throwing the following error:

Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 164k freed
Kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

Here is the other information:

root (hd0,1)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.21-15.EL ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.4.21-15.EL.img

Please let me know about the solution. Thanks!

It looks as if the system was crippled or incomplete. Did you already try a live CD to look at the system? I suggest SystemRescueCD or Finnix.
