I have a sound card installed (creative 32) that plays my tunes from cd fine.
but in sound card detection R.H. says there were no sound cards detected
hardware browser says the card is present and has a driver
although the mfg. is listed as unknown.
in sounds in control center i checked the enabling of sound schemes and played a few of the wav. files as a test .

However there are still no sounds played during the appropriate events (such as logout) and detection still says there is no soundcard.
I am puzzled and need a step by step approach to this problem as I have reloaded th o.s. twice and have been trying to solve this on my own for two days. There must be some eqivalent to windows device manager that i cant find that would help
