Hi, my first post. About 2 mo. ago I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an external HDD & it worked fine, but after a couple of days, for several reasons, had to put it aside. 2 days ago i tried it again - it booted o.k., the (Unity) desktop loaded,butwhen "auto logon" screen cae up, it was immediately replaced by a message stating to the effect that auto logon did not unlock my logon keyring & to type in my password, but clicking w/ the mouse or using the keyboard has no effect - nothing happens. I considered reinstalling but came here first hoping I'd learn something. I searched the forums for 2 days but couldn't find any similar poosts. Really appreciate any help as I'm brand new to Linux.

I find this or similar sometimes using USB mouse/keyboard. It is always fixed (for me) by disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse/keyboard. Have you tried that?
