ubuntu installation

i installed a second hard drive following a article in computer active and set up a duel boot system, win 98 and XP.I decided to try installing ubuntu 7.04 on the win 98 drive ,again a duel boot system with XP. Just to keep Xp until i had got use to linux I followed the computer active guide sept 07 getting started with linux.Xp got locked out completely and ubunto froze solid. So there,s a good job then? It took 2weeks to get the computer to work again ,having to reinstall XP and generally mess about, deep joy!! Can any one give me a clue as to installing ubunto without mayhem.

the link below (booting...) should be of some help. Also, the LQ member "Saikee" has some very good tutorials linked in his sig.

If you have issues again, please post the specific details.....

What do you mean "froze solid"? Does the BIOS still come up?

Still getting use to how the forum all works.Ubuntu installed but when i just messed about getting used to it i tried the screen saver scrolled down the options and got to i think bubbles, thats when it froze .Regardless of what i did the computer did not respond even to pressing the reset button on the front case ubuntu just came back on to screensaver bubbles .This i repeated several times plus reading books on how to get out trouble but noting worked so i reinstalled XP which did work.So untill i have a grasp of how to installing linux i,ll just carry on reading how to books.
