ubuntu installation and ubuntu live cd

hi,

i am trying to installa ubuntu ( breezy ). so far 4 times i have installed and failed.

basically my pc is old 300 mhz and 226 mb ram. ubuntu couldnt detect my monitor. it automatically reboots once it starts window manager. any way to select the monitor type and refresh rate?

secondly, live cd works better than ubutnu installation cd

thirdly, ubuntu just hangs once it reachs apt respository..

any tips/suggestions/solutions?

If the live cd works ok with your monitor, try replacing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file of your hard drive with the one that comes with the live cd.

It sounds to me as if your installer CD got corrupted either during the download or burn process, while your live CD got burnt perfectly. Did you do a checksum on the installer CD's .iso? Did you burn it at a slow speed?
