ubuntu 7.04 updates slowly

First, hello i'm new on ubuntu. My name is Guillermo but i like to be called "chepe263" 'cuz is who i'm on internet.
It was so hard swithing from xp to ubuntu and make updates to ubuntu 7.04. I have a few questions for ubuntu pros

Why synaptic downloads packages so slow? The day after i install ubuntu on my pendrive was perfect with the speed (i was using the update manager on system>admin.>update manager and the power gone so it was like i pressed reset button) the but now i'm using sypnactic to put new software on my ubuntu 7.04, downloads at 7565 b/s (less than 1kb/s) why? Is because i'm using synaptic or the "reset"?

Is needed to defragment the disk? I read that isn't when is formatted on ext3.

Ubuntu "freezzes", it is 'cuz is running from a pendrive? (8GB)

Where i found the best driver for windows to read ext partitions?

Thanks for everything,

chepe263

Why 7.04?

Is there a reason that you are using Ubuntu 7.04? The current version is Ubuntu 8.10, and you might have a better experience with that. Among other things, a pendrive version of 8.10 will give you the possibility of making and storing changes. If you want Ubuntu and your hardware is somewhat limited, there is Xubuntu.

On what hardware are you running Ubuntu? Although you can download and easily install 8.10 to a pendrive, it may operate more slowly than an installation to a HDD. There is this link; is it what you used?

Listen, i put the 7.04 on my pendrive 'cuz i see a How-to on pendrivelinux.com I have to wait more than a month just to download the ISO from internet and more than 1 year to buy a pendrive and put ubuntu on it. Download the new version will take me more than 2 months, put the os on the pendrive more than a hour. Sorry dude but i have other things to do. I request a disc to ship it but nothing. Today is like a month since i request a disc to ubuntu. What i'm gonna do? Are u sending me a copy? I would like but i don't know if you can. I expect more from fedora, the guy who is sending me fedora alredy e-mail me asking some data but ubuntu never sent me an email.

In spanish:

Mejor me cambio a Fedora.

Disculpa vos pero tu idea no me agrada

chepe263

Sorry for my poor english
