I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04. When I initially open the program I get a blank screen. I am able to open the program by going though the advanced options tab and running the recovery program but I would rather not have to do that each time I turn on the computer. Could anyone offer advice as how to fix this?
If you mean you boot up to a blank screen, is it absolutely blank or is there a blinking cursor in the top left corner?
If the cursor is there, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1. This gives you a root terminal. Sign in with your name and password, then at the next prompt type "startx" (with no quotation marks).
When I boot up, I get the GRUB list but if I choose Ubuntu, at first I get the Ubuntu logo, then the desktop, but it turns into a screen full of diagonal lines...I can only boot up using the recovery menu...
