Sudden freeze in a desktop session followed by boot problems
Hi,
This is my first post here. I am running Netrunner 18.03, based on Debian testing with KDE desktop.
A few hours ago the desktop froze without warning in the middle of a session while the CPU was under heavy load. I thought maybe it had overheated, but I actually doubt that. Anyway, I turned it off by holding in the power button and let it cool off.
Now when I start it up again, a virtual keyboard pops up on the login screen. This hasn't happened before and I do not have a touch screen. I click the virtual keyboard away and type in my password, and then the screen freezes while just showing my user name and the silhouette picture, or somtimes just reloads the login screen.
I also tried booting in recovery mode. I didn't get the virtual
keyboard, but when I typed my password and pressed enter, the login screen just reloaded.
What can be the cause of this?
I am using the same laptop now running Netrunner in a live session. I can access all of my data, so nothing is lost, but I really hope I don't have to reinstall.
My laptop:
Asus Zenbook Pro
Intel i7-6700hq
Intel hd graphics 530
GeForce 960m with no additional drivers installed
Distribution: Mainly Devuan, antiX, & Void, with Tiny Core, Fatdog, & BSD thrown in.

Sounds like you may have had a power cut/power outage, which left your system in an unstable state, I would run a filesystem check on your installed system from your live disk, of course, I have a back up of my data, just in case.
