I had a Dell netbook that'd give me problems when ever I tried putting Linux on it, it'd crap out sometimes, freeze up, and other times install Linux np, as I was one to install linux on it more then once chekcing out different distro's
yours a Desktop I gather? what process are you using CD, usb, waving your hand over it.. etc...
ram amount
partitons settings if applicable
have you tried a different disto -- good idea IMS
your distro is 32bit and not 64bit? as old XP had to be 32bit

got your hdd set up right and proper?
check connections to be sure...
ever have it running before with an OS, or is this s give me system that had no OS when you got it...
is your hard drive formated and partitioned yet?
