Question SKYPE in FC5 Query

Hello all - again.....

I want to install skype on my FC5 install. Not a problem in itself - i hope! However, on checking the SKYPE site, there is only an RPM for FC3. Should I wait for an FC5 version? I dint like to install the FC3 version as I am new to this & didnt want to bugger up my install......

Many thanks

Kevin

Try installing Skype from Klick at http://klik.atekon.de/

If you read the User Comments you will see that this has worked for some FC5 users.

You might have to make a few minor adjustments to get it to download to FC5.

well i tried it ....need ar?

Thanks arochester.

I went to the site - looks v interesting. I tried installing klik & then pressed the Skype link. A message popped up saying I needed to install "ar". I suppose its one of the dependencies. I went to the terminal & typed:

yum install ar

It went and did a load of stuuf, but returned the message "nothing to do".

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

thanks

Kevin

On the Klik site it says to run something in a Terminal first. Did you do this? It's:

wget klik.atekon.de/client/install -O -|sh

Question Terminal

Yes I did this command - gave me a message about rebooting firefox which I did.

No joy Im afraid.

I gather "ar" is part of Fedoras "binutils". I have tried updating this as well - no luck with that either.

Any more suggestions anyone??

Thanks

Kevin

Smile Success!!!!

I did a bit of research for this one.

Found out I didnt have the gcc libraries installed - a quick yum install gcc installed everything I needed.

Phew!!

Cheers
