Screen locked up when booting


I installed a new 10/100 Lan Card in my PC (Windows XP). When I turned on my PC, my pC could not boot, and the screen was locked up as following.

the most obvious thing would be to take it back out

If you have another PCI slot, you could try that too..

Actually, this is the second time when the same problem happens. The first time (3 weeks) ago, I bought a PCI modem, it had the same thing. Then I went back to the store to exchange another brand new modem, even change different PCI slot. The same problem always happens. I am knid of frustrated. Anyway, thanks for you guys help.

Acutally, it's in the booting process without loading any operating system yet

Are you able to update your PC's BIOS?

No, I didn't update my BIOS. How do I update my BIOS (My motherboard is Gigabyte 7DXR). Thanks.

Do you know the mobo manufaturer? go to the website and search for it, there should have instruction, just follow it.

have you tried clearing the cmos


there should be a jumper ot a removable battery.

I have seen the screen freeze on some when there's no operating system, try booting a bootable floppy.
