Question Scanner Configuration

Hi Linux World,
I went out today and purchased a new 2200c Hp Scanjet which according to the SANE site is suppose to be compatible with Linux. I dowloaded all the files Frontends and Backends and the thing shows up in my USB views but will not work?
Funny thing is that Xsane Icon is on desktop , but when I click on it it comes saying no devices found?

I know I can get this working in Vendow$ no problem there but I want to get this going in Linux.

Here are my system specs:
Mandrake 9
All current patches
Sane frtend and backend 1.0.8 or latest
AMD 1800 XP
512 Mgeg Ram
60 GB HD

Hope this will help resolving this issue.
Is there another program beside sane or xsane to get this working?

Thanks

Can someone help me out here? I really did not want to have two computers one running krappy vendow$ so I can scan and import pictures- then have another one for Linux.

I don't know how to set it up with SANE, but does their site not have a HOWTO? Check out the FAQ ! Otherwise try www.tldp.org or Google search.

Their is a commercial solution that should work: VueScan. I am going to try that one myself, as my HP 3500c is not (yet) supported by SANE.

I don't have an HP, but xsane works ok on Mdk 9.0 and 9.1 for my epson (usb) and canoscan (scsi). The correct device is /dev/usb/scanner0. hv u checked yr hp.conf file?

just for info, I was having major snags getting my (alledgedly) linux compatible epson 1260 usb configured under mandrake 9.0. I eventually managed it, even though sane identified it as a gt7000.

Anyhow, out came mandrake 9.1 and "Robert is your mothers brother" it detected it, identified it correctly and configured it perfectly.

regards

John

As a point of interest, I too have an HP scanner (Scanjet2300c) which the Mandrake hardware list identified as "known". Like yours, it shows up in the list, but sane does not see it. Upon checking the hadrware list again, I tried to configure it manually, but get the message that this scanner is not supported. For some reason, it has to do with HP compatible in sane backends - they just don't work in Mnadrake 9.0 or 9.1. There are some HP scanners that will work. Can't remember which they are, but if you check the Mandrake hardware list, they will state exactly which ones are 100% and which ones are "iffy". Personally, I'll just have to buy "another" scanner that I know is compatible with Mandrake, maybe another brand altogether. Goodmluck.
