I am running an AMD Athalon (tm) 64 FX-53 processor on a Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 mobo. My video card is a Asus V9570 TD FX 5700. I am running Suse 9.3 pro, and using the KDE desktop.
My scanner is the Epson Perfection (tm) 640U, and my digital camera is the Kodak DX4330. Both are USB devices.
My scanner and camera worked like a charm under Suse 9.1. When I got 9.3 I did a "new install."
I loaded the Epson 640U epkowa driver using Yast. When I click on the app link to start Kooka, my entire system freezes. My keyboard and mouse no longer respond. I have to press the reset key on my PC to reboot the system.
I removed the epkowa driver and tried with the Epson 640 driver. This time I click on the test button that runs the "scanimage -d" command (under Yast scanner configuration). The scanner responded and a window pops up saying all test ran OK. However, when I try to pull up Kooka again, the system freezes again! I reboot the system, unplug/re-plug the scanner and try again, but the system is still freezing up.
I go back into Yast, unload/re-load the driver. Run the test (everything still saying it passes OK), and this time, pull up a terminal and try using the scanimage command. The system still freezes up!
I unplug the scanner. I put my camera into its cradle (note: activating the camera using the Kodak cradle worked in Suse 9.1). I pull up the "control center" and click on the camera configuration application. The system freezes up!
My keyboard is the Kinesis Advantage MPU USB, and it is working (it didn't work in 9.2). My mouse is a Logitech USB wheel mouse and it works fine too!
Anybody out there have any clues as to why I cannot get my scanner & camera to work under Suse 9.3
