Recommended modems for Kubuntu 7.04?

Hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop PC on which I plan to install Kubuntu 7.04. The PC is fitted with a pci dialup modem of the Intel 537EP family. From reading here and there, I get the impression that a driver for this modem is either non-existant or beyond the capability of a very green newbie to set up. Can anyone therefore recommend a cost-effective modem with a readily available driver that I can purchase, thereby salvaging the few hairs I have left on my head...?!

If your PC still has a serial port, any external modem with RS232 connection should do.
No drivers required.
