RAID Issue on Linux 7.2

We're using Red Hat 7.2 with IBM xSeries 346 servers, and are running into a problem. We have them set up with a RAID1 with two 34.6GB drives. We then install kernel upgrades; when we go from 2.4.9-18 to 2.4.20-17, it seems to blow out the RAID configuration -- it fails to compile at all.

Has someone else had this issue? Or is it a known issue with xSeries 346es?

Thanks!

Well, just FYI, RH 7.2 is yrs old and hasn't been supported or updated (inc security updates) for years.
You really need to get a recent distro for safety, not to mention very few people will have a similar system to help you.
Try RH Fedora Core 7, or go to Centos which does the RH Enterprise series for free.

It would be awesome if we could upgrade, but there are dependencies that require us to use 7.2.

If you're sure, just make sure your boss understands the risk he's taking. If you're the IT guy, you'll get the blame, so put in writing (politely) eg email, cc yourself, just in case.

Er, I'm a consultant, so the blame always falls on me regardless of whether or not I had anything to do with it.

But I'm more interested in if anyone's solved a similar issue, and how it was done.

Hard to tell w/o seeing "the issue"...
If you could describe the problem in a bit more detail than
"it fails to compile at all", e.g. the error messages you
get that it fails with ...

Also: since 2.4.20 is ancient as well - is it not available
as a binary for that version of DeadRat?

I'm a curious person ... what are they? Who'd tie you in
with a distro that was out of service for donkey's years
and never was meant as a dedicated server-OS? :}

Cheers,
Tink
