Question about 2009 wireless router

I am getting ready to have cable internet installed in my apartment. I have a D-Link wireless router that I purchased back in 2009. My question is, is there any advantage to buying a new wireless router? Is it more secure; is the encryption stronger for a newer wireless router?

you didn't tell what kind of encritption you are using..?

you can see here range comparison between G and N standard.

i won't be buying new router if old is stable enough.. but you can check for DD-WRT or Tomato firmware routers on second hand market. They should be very stable with support for different encription protocols.
