Problems sending with postfix

Hi,

I'm modifying my shell script that backs up tar files to my NAS so that it will send a confirmation email upon either success or failure of the script. I've installed postfix. My email is host through google, so I've set my /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd file as follows:

[smtp.gmail.com]:587 email@mydomain.comassword

I keep getting a bouceback message in /var/spool/mail/root stating "Authentication Required." I'm using a known good password. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
