Problems Installing SmillaEnlarger

I tried to install SmillaEnlarger yesterday on my machine running

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS it is a 64 bit machine.

Synaptic Package Manager provides the following results:

/.
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/SmillaEnlarger
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/smillaenlarger
/usr/share/doc/smillaenlarger/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/smillaenlarger/changelog.gz
/usr/share/doc/smillaenlarger/copyright

and

0.9.0-1~lucid~ppa (lucid)

PROBLEMS;

When I ReLoad Synaptic Package Manager it provides the following message(s)

Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ferramrober...64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ferramrober...64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

QUESTIONS:

1. The Smilla Enlarger Program DOES NOT APPEAR or SHOW UP ANYWHERE? Is this because of the Failed to fetch...messages?

2. How do I remove the Failed to fetch messages.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE,

Did you install it through your package manager? From what I found on the internet, it seems that you need to download it manually and compile and install it. As far as running it, have you tried running it from the command line?

Yes I did download SmillaEnlarger manually

I downloaded the program manually...

Came across a youtube video that showed how to install it..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrMa50bU9Mg

Was able to follow the lions share of the video but now I have SmillaEnlarger opening when I turn my computer on.

Steps Followed:

1. Downloaded SmillaEnlarger_0.9.O_zip
2. Extracted components from zip file
3. Copied all headers from ImageEnlargerCode to SmillaEnlargerSrc
4. Opened Terminal Window and used the following two lines:
sudo apt-get install qt4-qmake

sudo apt-get install libqt4-dev

5. From the SmillaEnlargerSrc opened Terminal and typed
qmake ImageEnlarger.pro

make

6. Opened the SmillaEnlargerSrc folder and found the icon that said SmillaEnlarger - double clicked it and SmillaEnlager opened

7. NOW I AM STUMPED! LOL Don't know how to quite get the program to appear in the Applications menu.

Suggestions?

Add it manually? Most likely, it doesn't have the needed scripts to add it to your applications menu. Put the source directory somewhere out of sight, and then right click on your applications toolbar, edit, and just add a shortcut to whatever menu you want to.

Thumbs up Thank you!

Now why the video on youtube could not just simple have said "and then right click on your applications toolbar, edit, and just add a shortcut to whatever menu you want to." I have no idea.. BUT IT WORKED.

Thank you!

(Please tell me the icon I added is something in the genre of 'clapping hands' or 'thumbs up'..)

A thumbs up.... LOL!

It's all good, we all do dumb things sometimes Like right now, because of my meds, I went to create a tarball, and completely forgot to give it a destination name for the newly made tar file. Needless to say, it picked the very first file, and overwrote it. Thank god for !&#*&#&@ backups.......
