Problem configuring Samsung 2494 HM monitor in open Suse 11.1

Hello ,

i have installed Suse 11.1 on my PC and got everything working fine except my monitor , it is a Samsung 2494HM Full HD monitor but i cant get it running at 1920x1080 . after setting up the monitor manually i enterd all the specs correctly ( according to my manual ). and updated my videocard driver i now got is working on a resolution of 1680x1050 looks better but still not optimal . but i cannot choose the 1920x1080 resolution

i think i oversee something but tried a lot and nothing helped me sofar.
my videocard is a GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU it is an older system .. i know maybe i should just by myself a new PC ;-) ..

nevertheless i would be gratefull if you help me to get it working as it should be on this system ..

Thanks in advance

for completion here is the content of my xorg.conf file :

Did you try this?

Have you opened Yast and found Hardware, Graphics Card and Monitor? If you open it, you may key the box Change and find either your monitor or a monitor with with the same resolution. See the tabs at the top to set the size and maximum frequencies that conform to your screen

If that doesn't help, try to reinstall with the command, as su, "sax2 -r", then using the same procedure to set the monitor specifications. Google for the details and post back if neither of these help.

Are you using the Nvidia driver? On my system, with 11.0, I first adjusted my monitor, then installed the driver. The sax2 setting is now no longer are as I set them, but the driver works well. I assume it may have started with the monitor specifications that I chose.

Perhaps more relevantly, have you googled for your Samsung and the GeForce4 chip to see if the card is up to the task of supplying the resolution you need. A new card?

Good Luck

Hello thorkelljarl,

I have tried your options but they did not bring the desired result , after that i took a closer look at my cards specs and fopund out it had only 32 mb of memory and it was about time to move on to an other ( less older ) card i bought a nvidia Geforce 6200 ( still old i know bur it was cheap ) and after i installed the card the resolution was as i wanted it i am a very very happy with the result

Thanks for your reply ! it forced me to take a closer look at my hardware ...

Regards

Maarten
