The HP_Deskjet_2540_series_piprinterserver should be deleted since it dont print. How to do this? (purging cups-browsed did not help)

Is it a printer coming from another client?

The server has only 1 installed printer ..
usb://HP/Deskjet%202540%20series?serial=CN42B3F3SN0604&interface=1 (link seen in the cups browser from the server).

It's most likely picking something up on the network. Since the driver's are built in it automatically will do that and you can print to anything on the network. Just make sure your default is set. There is a way to disable network scanning I believe but I've never had a reason to learn it. My computer picks up my dad's printer on the other side of our land out here. Same lan. Makes sense.

Solution found. File below updated on the client. Works.

nano /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf

# removed 22 jan 2024
# https://askubuntu.com/questions/345083/how-do-i-disable-automatic-remote-prin>
#BrowseRemoteProtocols dnssd cups
BrowseRemoteProtocols none

Then (root terminal)

service cups-browsed restart
service cups restart

..
the non-welcomed printer is gone

UPDATE: since in an application printer menu on the client, the piprinterserver was still there, https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....8#post13815838 gave the solution

systemctl disable --now avahi-daemon
Quote:
Synchronizing state of avahi-daemon.service with SysV service script with /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install.
Executing: /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install disable avahi-daemon
Removed /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/avahi-daemon.service.
Removed /etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/avahi-daemon.socket.
Removed /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.Avahi.service.
Warning: Stopping avahi-daemon.service, but it can still be activated by:
avahi-daemon.socket

then doing on the client

apt-get autoremove
