Hi all,
thanks for reading this !
I have a printer "EPSON 5700L" which is connected to my parallel port.
I use kernel 2.6.5 on a Debian.
My printer either does nothing, or is not found as I will describe in the following:
I have used cups to add the printer, and it seems to have found it. The problem is that when i.e. printing a testpage or doing a "lp -d ep1 'file'" simply nothing happens. It is like, the printer does not receive the job, even though lp thinks so.
[b] Debug Info Starts Here [/n]
Here is what CUPS has to say about the printer:
Description: ep1
Location: ep1
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0
Here is what DMESG has to say:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: Printer, EPSON EPL-5700L
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
Here is what lpstat has to say about the printer:
tcsh>lpstat -t
scheduler is running
system default destination: ep1
device for ep1: parallel:/dev/lp0
ep1 accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer ep1 is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00
When printer via lp the following happens:
tcsh>lp -d ep1 A_file
request id is ep1-31 (1 file(s))
tcsh>lpstat -u troels
ep1-31 troels 1024 søn 02 maj 2004 11:00:35 CEST
tcsh>lpstat -u troels
tcsh>
Again, the printer continously is ligting green for ready/idle state, and nothing happens.
The printer is not found neither by lpr og openoffice:
When I try to print via lpr:
tcsh>lpr -P ep1 alias
lpr: ep1: unknown printer
Likewise the printer is not found in openoffice, I can only see ">generic printer>" and "<lp>"
Thanks for any help you can assist with.
