Have you set the root password for mysql? Are you using localhost for your server name? What version of MySQL do you have? What Distro to you have?

I tend to think with forums you get what you put in. It seems that you are posting about 1 second after you have a problem which is rather annoying to say the least.

I would suggest taking a look at the documentation for chosen dist, try some things out and see how you get on. Have a search on this forum as im very sure someone has already had the same problem as you and will then find a solution.

When posting try to include as many details as possible as this will help people help you.

Mattar, do have a look at the link I posted recently - it answers this question and many more you have asked. Here it is again:

What are you doing and how are you doing it (eg are you doing things from terminal, if so what commands are you typing)

This should work

#mysql -u root mysql

mysql> UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('typre_password_here_in_single_quotes') WHERE User='root';

mysql> \q
