Partition mounting fails after hibernation

Hello all,

I have been using debian (newbie: since January). I have used the following script to hibernate my laptop when the lid is closed.

https://wiki.debian.org/SystemdSuspendSedation

But today as I was resuming from my hibernation, I accidentally pressed F11/F12 (which are my brightness keys on my laptop) and the booting got hung up.

I tried a forced reboot, but the bootloader is unable to mount my home and puts me into the emergency mode. Looking through the disk partitions using a live CD, I could see that neither /home or / are listed and only swap is listed.

Can someone kindly help as I have in my laptop some important data

Please help !!
Vishnu

Hello vishnukurupath & welcome to LQ.

What may have happened is that you couldn't mount /, but there is an emergency system with busybox which has cut-down versions of useful utilities. The live cd is a better thing to use. Try this in a termial and post the results:
  1. Run '/sbin/fdisk -l' to print the disk partitions. Post that output.
  2. Presuming you know your filesystem's type, read the man page, and run a check on the file systems you can't mount. Most have ext file systems, repaired by e2fsck.
  3. If you don't know your file system (theoretically possible) run fsck <device>
Let us know how you get on.

SOLVED !!

Hello Business_Kid

Thank you very much for your message !!
I was able to solve the problem by dropping to root and running fsck -f -y /dev/uuid-of-home-partition.
